Stay Upright Partners with MotorCycle Holdings, opens doors in Brisbane
Australia’s favourite motorcycle school, Stay Upright, has partnered in South East Queensland with Australia’s leading motorcycle dealership group, TeamMoto & MCAS to provide novice riders with a complete ‘one stop shop’ dedicated to improving motorcycle safety on Queensland roads. As part of the partnership, Stay Upright has launched a purpose-built motorcycle training centre in Coopers Plains which will offer learners a safe alternative for learning to ride.
“Not only does the Brisbane centre offer a stable, consistent and dedicated centre designed exclusively for motorcycle training, but the partnership with TeamMoto & MCAS ensures it’s a one-stop shop for motorcycle safety,” said Glen McGrath, Regional Manager NSW, ACT & QLD for Stay Upright. “TeamMoto is a Queensland institution, loyal to the industry and committed to the safety of its riders.
“The partnership ensures we’re providing riders with everything they’ll need, throughout their motorcycling journey – from the moment a beginner first touches the handlebars, to those with experience, wishing to explore new territory.”
This partnership means that Stay Upright customers will now receive discounts on a wide range of products and services at TeamMoto and MCAS stores in Queensland when they book a course.
BOOM IN LESSONS, INTEREST DURING PANDEMIC
Founded in 1981, Stay Upright is Australia’s first and largest motorcycle training provider. It operates official licensing training in five states and trains more than 45,000 riders annually across the country.
“There has been a boom in pre-learner training across other states in Australia, with a more than 20 per cent increase in demand since May last year – something we attribute to pandemic lockdowns and people itching for a new experience, and a new, socially-distanced, way to travel,” said McGrath. “With international travel off the cards indefinitely, Queensland has seen a similar uptick as people look for new ways to spend their free time – what better way than cruising the open road?
“Many are doing it because they have the time now to undertake a hobby, while some are looking at motorcycles as a path to a new or second income, such as a food delivery driver. With that increase in interest comes an inevitable increase in motorbike riders on our roads, and that requires a greater emphasis on safety training.
“In partnering with TeamMoto & MCAS, we’re able to provide as much information and equipment as possible – from the motorbike itself to the boots and the knowledge – to give our riders the best possible chance to stay safe out on the road.”
Founded in 1989, TeamMoto is owned by MotorCycle Holdings (ASX: MTO), Australia's leading motorcycle retailer and accessories group with 48 franchises operated from 31 dealerships and eight retail accessory locations in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, and the Australian Capital Territory.
“Stay Upright has provided training for 40 years and safety is in their DNA,” said Chay Alcock, TeamMoto. “They’ve delivered exceptional outcomes for riders across the country and we’re proud to partner with an organisation which has a history steeped in safety.”
Stay Upright’s courses combine classroom theory and practical riding, with each starting first on the range to ensure riders are confident, before experienced instructors guide them out on to the road.
“We teach both the practical and the mental aspects of riding,” said McGrath. “When preparing for a ride, our students learn to acknowledge their state of mind. A distracted mind can have consequences to safety that people typically don’t consider before riding until it’s too late.”
